The Deputy Secretary of Commerce (DEPSECCOM) serves as the Deputy Head of the United States Department of Commerce. The Deputy Secretary of Commerce is tasked with assisting in the management of the Department of Commerce. The most important role of the Deputy Secretary is to serve the duties of the Secretary of Commerce if the office is vacant. The role was introduced to the game in v3.3.
Information
Selection Process
To be selected for the office of Deputy Secretary of Commerce, an individual must first serve in the Department of Commerce. This is the only way to take the position of Deputy Secretary. The role may be selectable from the roles menu if the office is vacant. However, if the position is not available, an individual must serve in another Secretary role in the Department and be elevated to the Deputy Secretary role once it becomes vacant. This promotion is automatic, and the Secretary of Commerce has no power in selecting the Deputy Secretary.
The individual holding the office of Deputy Secretary is at the discretion of the Secretary of Commerce, and therefore, an individual may be removed from office at any time.
Daily Schedule
The Daily Schedule of the Deputy Secretary of Commerce consists of three distinct events.
Department Meeting
The Department Meeting is a time for the Deputy Secretary of Commerce to meet with the Secretary of Commerce as well as the Secretaries of each department. In this meeting, the Secretary of Commerce will be provided with a department issue that has several options to choose from. The Deputy Secretary will advise the Secretary on which option to pick.
Working Group/Office Hour
During this period, the Deputy Secretary will either attend a working group or an office hour. If it's a working group, the Deputy Secretary will be taken to one of the various departments to meet with staff and discuss an issue to come to a decision, much like the decision-making in the department meeting. If it is office hour, the Deputy Secretary will have a free hour with no required tasks.
Social Hour
The Social Hour is a time for roleplay. While not as important as the other events, it provides an opportunity to socialize and roleplay with others. During this period, events like the State of the Union and party events may take place.
Powers and Duties
Department
Within the Department, the Deputy Secretary has no direct power but is tasked with advising the Secretary of Commerce on how they use their authority, especially in regards to personnel. The Deputy Secretary is also a senior figure who provides guidance to the staff below them, assisting in making important decisions.
Issue Resolution
As the Deputy Secretary of Commerce, you will be presented with an issue each morning. During your spare time or office hours, you should read over the issue and decide which option to choose. Note that your choice will affect your statistics, so it is important to read and consider all options carefully.
