The President of the United States (POTUS) is the highest role in Oath of Office: United States and the head of state and government of the nation. It is the most powerful role in the game, able to pass nationwide laws and chairs Cabinet meetings. Its main role is to pass laws and engage in roleplay with its department ministers. The role was added in the Initial Release (v1.0).
Information edit edit source
Selection Process edit edit source
The selection process consists of two sections, the presidential primaries and the presidential election. The presidential primaries occur during Day 2, here each party will nominate individual candidates for president of the United States. This process is designed to choose the candidates that will represent their political parties in the general election. The character who has the most prestige (have played in the server the longest) will be selected as their party candidate, in the case that a the incumbent President is running they will be automatically selected. Now, presidential election season begins where the two candidates from each party are put against each other (if the President is outgoing/has served 2 terms) or the incumbent President faces off against the opposing party challenger. For a character to win the election, they must secure 270 electoral college votes. To secure electoral votes a candidate has to secure a higher percentile of raw votes than their opponent in a specific state, for example, if candidate A achieves 50% of votes in the state of Appalachia meanwhile candidate B only gets 48%, candidate A will recieve the entire 66 electoral votes from Appalachia. This can be done by passing laws that benefit the groups that compose each state, swaying them to your side, with the exception of the District of Columbia (DC) which is composed of the in-game players. You can see which groups compose each state in the "State Information" tab. Elections are held on the evening of day 4, each candidate may attend their party rally to follow up the race with their colleagues. Whoever has more votes wins the election and becomes the new President. Note that characters in the "independent" party cannot run for Presidency.
The term length for a president is 4 in-game days, each day lasting 15 minutes, 6o minutes in a term. A president can serve two terms if reelected, but will not be allowed to run after that. After a president ends their presidency, either by losing an election or completing 2 terms, the character is demoted and given the role of "Former President". However, if they have never been elected President before, they will be reset and gave the Mayor modifier option.
Daily Schedule edit edit source
As the President, your day is split up into 5 sessions:
White House Meeting edit edit source
During the White House Meeting, you'll be able to discuss with the Vice President and the White House Staff about the day ahead of you, including things such as the National Issue, Legislation, and more. (H24-H1)This meeting is typically held in the Oval Office.
Leadership Meeting edit edit source
The Leadership Meeting is held in the Roosevelt Room, and the other people present include the Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore, White House Chief of Staff, and the Legislative Director. The topic during this meeting is usually about the Legislative Branch in general, and concerns you have about the Global Statistics.
Cabinet Meeting edit edit source
The Cabinet Meeting is all about the National Issue; each of the five currently-in-game Secretaries will convene in the Cabinet Room, along with the White House Chief of Staff and National Security Adviser. The President has the final say in the vote, but will usually give the present members a say in the matter before they make their final decision.
Free Time edit edit source
This block of the day is empty for the President, so you're able to do whatever.
Social Hour edit edit source
The Social Hour includes everyone in the game and is either a simple talking area, such as the President's Gala, or the State of the Union Address. Not much important occurs here, it's just a roleplay session where you can talk with others and give speeches.
Powers and Duties edit edit source
Like all other high-ranking roles, the President Day is divided into 4 sections, the Office Period, the Cabinet Period, and two social periods. Each day, the President is given an issue to deal with. The President can chair meetings with the Secretaries of Departments to discuss this issue and pass a law that would benefit the nation. Each law the President passes affects both his polls and the statistics of the nation. The President is also able to teleport to every department building and supervise the secretaries.
The President can lead events that are hosted every day and (during the Gala and Inauguration), can speak to the other players. On day 3, this event is replaced with the debate, and on day 4, there are the party rallies.
The President is also able to remove 1 cabinet minister per term his choice, however it is not mandatory and up to the discretion of the President. If he does so, the secretary in question is removed from office and the next most senior player of that department takes control.
The 25th Amendment edit edit source
If the cabinet sees the president as incompetent or incapacitated, a member can invoke the 25th amendment through the "Personnel" tab on their computer. By initiating the motion, the remaining cabinet members will be given the option to select "Aye" or "Nay". Majority of the cabinet must be in agreement with the decision of impeachment, and no more than one member of cabinet may disagree, otherwise the motion fails. If the motion passes, the cabinet member that comes next in the line of succession, who is generally the Secretary of the Treasury or the Secretary of State, will assume the position of interim president until the start of the next term.
If the motion fails, the president will be able to see who initiated the vote, which gives the president the power to terminate the cabinet member as he pleases.
Impeachment edit edit source
If the House of Representatives sees that the President is incompetent, a member of the House of Representatives or the Speaker of the House can pass a bill to impeach the president. There is a restriction where none of the members of the House of Representatives can impeach the president on the first day. Once the bill is being reviewed by the House of Representatives, each member can cast their vote on either “Aye”, “Abstain”, or “Nay”. If the bill passes the House of Representatives, the Senate will trial the bill and decide if the President should be impeached (fired), or not. If the President is impeached, the Vice President will become the new President. If there is no Vice President, the Speaker of the House (SotH) will become President instead.
