The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is an American executive agency and a department tasked with protection of American citizens, government officials, and diplomats. The Department of Homeland Security oversees agencies such as the United States Secret Service (USSS) and the Office of Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). It is led by the Secretary of Homeland Security (SECDHS).

The director answers to the Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

The Secretary of Homeland Security, known as the SECDHS, is responsible for ensuring that all operations within the department are smooth and efficient, while also upholding the agenda of the President. The SECDHS generally has strong influence on the foreign and domestic relationship of the United States, overseeing agreements such as the NERC-CIP which can impact national security.

The Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, known as the DEPSECDHS, is responsible for assisting the Secretary in their operations, while managing any concerns that may come from the agencies that are a part of the department. When not managing the agencies, they generally ensure that the Secretary is fully informed on the status of the department and consult with them in-regards to any future changes that may be needed for a progression in the department. The Deputy Secretary responds to the Secretary of Homeland Security.
